If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy
After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America’s favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs filling ASAP, Cindy volunteers, hoping it might help jump-start her fashion career, or at least give her something to do while her peers land jobs in the world of high fashion.
Turns out being the only plus size woman on a reality dating competition makes a splash, and soon Cindy becomes a body positivity icon for women everywhere. What she doesn’t expect? That she may just find inspiration-and love-in the process. Ultimately, Cindy learns that if the shoe doesn’t fit, maybe it’s time to design your own.
This was a fun Cinderella retelling. One of the things I loved most was that the stepmom and stepsisters were actually kind.
Cindy was definitely likeable. I loved her confidence and body positivity. Julie Murphy did a great job including the things people tend to say about fat/plus size people in real life. I enjoyed the setting of a reality tv show too. I don’t really watch any, but I did see a season of the bachelor early on. This definitely reminded me of that. Henry was a likeable character too. I loved the chemistry between him and Cindy. The siblings were all great and I liked almost all the side characters. I’d actually read a book about some of them. Overall, I enjoyed this quick read and always like Julie Murphy’s writing.
I gave this book 4 stars.
